In 2000, Dr. Terry Wahls was diagnosed with relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis. As a clinical professor of medicine at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, she was fully aware of her inevitable fate of becoming bedridden by the disease and wanted to stall it as long as possible. With her academic medical background, she knew the research, and hoped through months or years of digging through scientific articles she could uncover a cure. Night after night, she relearned biochemistry, cellular physiology, and neuroimmunology to understand everything there was to know about multiple sclerosis. Unfortunately, most of the studies involved testing drugs that were years away from FDA approval.

In 2007, she discovered Functional Medicine which focuses on how and why illness occurs, and addresses the root causes of disease, and she had an important epiphany: she could redesign her diet to ensure she was receiving all the important brain nutrients from the foods she was eating. She used her research to construct a completely new food plan. In December 2007, she began the Wahls Protocol™ and restored her health using her new diet and lifestyle program. The results stunned her doctor and family and within a year, she was out of her wheelchair and able to walk without a cane. Wahls continues to spread the word as a renowned author, by conducting clinical trials, and hosting seminars.

With our similar philosophy as food as medicine, we were honored to be introduced to Dr. Terry Wahls and host a dinner to support her research fund. Check out some images from the event below and head over to our Instagram to enter to win her book - The Wahls Protocol Cooking for Life!
